Teaching

The UConn Fruit Orchard will be a unique teaching opportunity for undergraduate and graduate students at the university, including the three-credit Small Fruit Production course offered during the spring semester. The Department of Plant Science and Landscape Architecture is well-known for its hands-on, experiential learning. To maintain this standard, students taking the Small Fruit Production Course will apply concepts learned in the class in the UConn Fruit Orchard. Students will also have the opportunity to experience the inner workings of the orchard through summer internships in fruit production. Students will learn each aspect of fruit production from pre-plant to post-harvest considerations. Once established, the tree fruit orchard will serve as the basis for creating additional fruit-centric courses such as Tree Fruit Production or Fruit IPM.
